Allen W. Alderson, of Big Horn, WY passed away Friday, July 21, 2017l. He was born to Irving N and Frances (Cook) Alderson May 6th, 1934 in Sheridan, WY.

Allen spent his childhood days on the Bones Brothers Ranch in Birney, MT, roaming the land with his horse, dog and red tail hawk. He attended Birney School and graduated from Colstrip High School. He and his brother Irv grew up hunting, fishing, rodeoing and working on the family dude and cattle ranch. He was accepted at the Montana State University and after a few semesters he decided to join the Army, where his service took him to France. Allen returned to the family ranch and became very adept at hosting eastern dudes to western hospitality until the mid-sixties. At the end of managing the dude business Allen and his young family moved to the Yellowstone Valley where they started their own ranching business. Through the next decade, he operated and developed several successful ranches. In each ranch community, he built lifelong friendships.

Allen left ranching and worked at Billings Livestock Commission Co. where he met Mary Brooks Larson. The next few years were spent between Montana and Arizona pursuing his professional rodeo steer roping career. He trained many horses, three became consecutive winners of the Pendleton Round-up.

He and Brooks married on Feb 17th, 1984 in Tucson, Arizona. Later they returned to the Sheridan area and found their little piece of paradise, in the shadow of the Big Horn Mountains.

Allen always gave 150% in his work and in life. He did everything from, helping with cattle, brandings, calving, game bird clubs, guiding hunters and fisherman, training bird and coyote hunting dogs, riding his BMW motorcycle and reading. At the NX Bar ranch his job title was Predator Controller, where his expertise was protecting the elk herds from the coyote. He loved the outdoors and was a wonderful steward of the land.

Allen was a true and loyal friend, loved by many. He was an easy person to be around and had the ability to make people feel right at home. He was a perfect gentleman who represented true western values. He loved his wife, brother, children, grandchildren, and great grandson unconditionally.
