The Wyoming Supreme Court is likely to consider an appeal on behalf of Sheridan teenager Wyatt Bear Cloud. Cloud, at 18, is serving life in prison following his guilty plea to a home invasion, and subsequent involvement in the murder of Sheridan businessman Robert Ernst.
Bear Cloud's lawyers argue that his sentence violated his constitutional rights. They also say a district court judge should have allowed a transfer to juvenile court. The Wyoming Attorney General's Office says Bear Cloud received an appropriate sentence and fair treatment.
In November, the state Supreme Court denied requests from the ALCU (American Civil Liberties Union ) of Wyoming, and Equal Justice Initiative, an Alabama-based group, to file friend-of-the-court briefs on Bear Cloud's behalf. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
