The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee brought the first of two political forums to the CTEL Auditorium at Sheridan College last night. Generally, the questions to candidates were answered in a civil manner, with one exception during the Sheridan mayoral portion of the forum. Candidates Steve Brantz, Dave Kinskey, and John Self, were each scheduled to answer several questions, however, Self, during his introduction, began to verbally condemn current Mayor Kinskey...
Self, following comments from moderator Mike Nickel, stated he had nothing more to say. He then left the auditorium, after stating that he believed in freedom of speech.
The first candidates to speak were Chris Smith and Wanda Johnston, running for City Council seats in Dayton. Following them were Theresa DeFeyter, Anthony Fairbanks, and Shelleen Smith, who are running for the Ward I seat on Sheridan's City Council. Sheridan mayoral candidates were next, concluding with candidates for City Council who are running unopposed: Kristen Kelly, Levi Dominguez, both of Sheridan, and Peter Clark of Ranchester.
Each candidate expressed their positions during the forum, which was broadcast live on Sheridan College Public Television. It will be rebroadcast at least three times in the coming weeks on Optimum cable channel 21.
