According to the Sheridan Police Department, on Wednesday at approximately 7:45am, Sheridan High School students notified school staff of Instagram posts that implied a threat to the school.

Staff learned of the postings before the start of school. A School Resource Officer was notified by school staff.

The student to whom the Instagram account is registered told investigating oifficvers his Instagram account had been hacked. The student allowed officers to inspect his cell phone.

The student was quickly cleared and was not a suspect. The student and his family were fully cooperative with police investigators.

The subsequent investigation led officers to identify a suspect and then develop probable cause for the arrest of the 16 year old male suspect for terroristic threats, which is a felony.

The male was transported to a juvenile detention facility.

The Sheridan Police Department would like to assure the community that all of their schools are safe to attend.
