James Johnson, a 2007 East graduate who led the Thunderbirds to the 4A State Title in 2006, recently was recognized with the #6 Play of the Year on NBA TV’s Top 10 plays of the season.

Johnson had his share of dunks, but the two that got the most attention this past season, was when he posterized Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors back in January, and then ran over Marcus Morris of the Detroit Pistons last month…the latter which was named #3 on NBATV’s Dunk of the Year.

The eight year NBA veteran was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2009, after playing two years at Wake Forest University, and just completed his best season scoring-wise, averaging 12.8 points per game with the Miami Heat.
